Each year in Florida, thousands of pounds of fruits, vegetables and nuts are discarded for a variety of reasons, some of them as simple as blemishes or overproduction. Many communities use citrus trees as landscaping, which creates a “forgotten” crop of tangerines, oranges, lemons and grapefruit each year.
The goal of Forgotten Fruit is to harvest this forgotten produce and distribute it to the needy throughout Florida. Some of the recipients that benefit from this are inner-city school kids, low-income seniors and area food pantries.
